Owner Alison shares the story of her much-loved Cockapoo, Sally, one of the longest-serving members of the Moment to Paws pack.
How long have you had Sally?
Sally came to us in the spring of 2019 during the Beast from the East. I had to carry her through deep snow in a backpack to get her vaccinations at the vets.
Sally wasn't the easiest puppy. She didn't want to sleep in her crate and cried every night. Unfortunately, the neighbours complained, so we brought her bed upstairs onto the landing. That only lasted so long, and inevitably she now sleeps on the bed with me!
Why a Cockapoo?
My friend had a Cockapoo and I loved their friendly, cheerful temperament, as well as their manageable size. The fact that they don't shed fur is an added bonus. We'd always had Collies before, and although they were wonderful dogs, they certainly left plenty of hair around the house!
How would you describe Sally?
Sally is a loving little dog who has been by my side through both the hardest and happiest times of my life. I can't imagine being without her.
She can be excitable and giddy, but she absolutely loves everyone she meets.
Sally celebrates everything:
You come back after disappearing for two minutes – she celebrates.
You make her dinner – she celebrates.
She is simply full of joy.
Joining the Moment to Paws team
My son Tim attended one of the very first Moment to Paws events through his workplace. When I moved back to Yorkshire, he thought I might enjoy getting involved, so I contacted Kate.
Sally's temperament is perfect for therapy work, and Kate invited us to join the team in early 2022. The rest, as they say, is history.
How does Sally enjoy the events?
Sally absolutely loves attending events. She's a brilliant meet-and-greet dog and enjoys being stroked, fussed over and having tummy rubs.
She used to stay active throughout every event, but now, at eight years old, she prefers to relax on a cushion towards the end while people come over to say hello.
I love doing events with Sally too. Meeting people and seeing the smiles that the dogs bring to their faces makes every visit worthwhile.
