Cayt’s Tale: Meet Our Goofy Labrador Therapy Dog
22 April 2026Having run over 200 dog therapy events, we’ve heard just about every question you can imagine. Whether you’re booking a corporate wellbeing session or simply curious about therapy dogs, a few questions come up time and time again.
Here are the three we’re asked most often at Moment to Paws.
1. Where do the dogs come from?
We’re sometimes asked if we have a building full of dogs ready and waiting, but in reality, all of our therapy dogs are much-loved pets, living in happy homes with their owners. Every dog is part of a real family and joins us because they genuinely enjoy the experience.
Owners choose to register their dogs with Moment to Paws for lots of reasons. Some want to give their dog more mental stimulation and social interaction. Others have had a change in routine, like a new baby or a busier work schedule, and want to make sure their dog still gets the attention they thrive on.
And for many, it’s simply the joy of knowing their dog is making someone’s day a little brighter.
Our dog therapy sessions give these dogs exactly what they love most: attention, affection, and plenty of fuss.

2. Are the dogs therapy dogs?
Yes—they absolutely are.
Every dog at Moment to Paws is carefully assessed for therapy work by our founder, Kate, a degree-qualified canine behaviourist and certified member of the Institute of Modern Dog Trainers.
But it doesn’t stop there. We continually monitor all of our therapy dogs to make sure they’re happy, relaxed, and enjoying every session. Their wellbeing always comes first.
If a dog ever shows signs that they’re not completely comfortable, we take a step back and reassess. Sometimes that means extra support, and sometimes it means a well-earned retirement from therapy work.
We work with a wide range of breeds, sizes, and personalities, but one thing matters above all else: temperament.
Our dogs don’t just tolerate attention, they actively seek it out. They love being around people and are naturally calm, friendly, and sociable—perfect for corporate wellbeing events and group environments.
They also need to be comfortable around other dogs. While there’s time for a little play before sessions begin, once the event starts, their focus shifts to the people in the room.

3. How does a dog join the team?
It all starts with an application from the owner, followed by a detailed questionnaire so we can get to know both them and their dog.
From there, we carry out a temperament assessment, spending time with the dog to understand their personality and make sure they feel comfortable with our handlers. We also gently introduce elements they might experience at an event, like busier environments, unfamiliar sounds, and being around groups of people and other dogs.
A big part of the assessment is how the dog responds to touch. It’s important they’re not just okay with being stroked—they need to genuinely enjoy it, with no signs of stress or discomfort.
If they’re successful at this stage, they’re invited to attend a session as a trial. This gives us the chance to see how they feel in a real environment and whether they’re having a good time.
If all goes well, they officially join the pack.
Some of our dogs have been with us for over five years, and we’re always excited to welcome new paws along the way.
